More than 150,000 individuals carry the card and it is required to be able to operate most categories of plant on MCG (Major Contractors Group) and NCF (National Contractors Federation) sites. Put simply it is the main standard for plant operators.
The roles and responsibilities of all personnel involved in the planning, supervision and execution of lifting operations are defined in the code of practice BS7121 – Safe Use of Cranes. BS7121 helps employers comply with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) when they are using mobile cranes.
This 5 day extended course is aimed at anyone who is required to plan safe systems of work using lifting equipment with no or very little experience of planning lifting operations using mobile cranes. Although, thorough understanding of lifting operations is required. This gives additional training as preparation for the Technical test on day five of the course.
The aim of this course is to provide candidates with underpinning knowledge in order for them to understand the role and responsibility of the Appointed Person. Following successful completion of the course candidates will be able to prepare and implement safe systems of work for lifting operations including writing risk assessments and method statements.

Successful candidates will be awarded a Red CPCS Trained Operator card endorsed with the category Appointed Person. Please note the red CPCS card is only valid for 2 years, within this time you must complete your NVQ level 5 Diploma to convert from Red card to Blue card. The Blue CPCS card is valid for 5 years, please see NVQ section for more information.
Pre course requirement: The Health Safety & Environment test for Managers & Professionals must be passed before undertaking the CPCS Technical Test.
This 4 day course is aimed at anyone who is required to supervise safe systems of work using lifting equipment. It is recommended that prior to attending this course individuals should have some experience of working with lifting equipment, especially mobile cranes.
The aim of this course is to provide candidates with underpinning knowledge in order for them to understand the role and responsibility of the Crane Supervisor. Following successful completion of the course candidates will be able to understand and follow safe systems of work for lifting operations including writing risk assessments and method statements.
Topics covered during this course include:
Successful candidates will be awarded a Red CPCS Trained Operator card endorsed with the category Crane Supervisor. Please note the Red CPCS card is only valid for 2 years, within this time you must complete your NVQ level 4 Diploma to convert from Red card to Blue card. The Blue CPCS card is valid for 5 years, please see NVQ section for more information.
Pre course requirement: The Health Safety & Environment test for Specialist Supervisors must be passed before undertaking the CPCS Technical Test.
This 4 day course is aimed at inexperienced operatives who are required to undertake slinging and signalling for the movement of loads using lifting equipment. Candidates may be new to the role or may be those with limited experience and no formal training.

The aim of this course is to provide candidates with practical and theoretical knowledge in order for them to undertake the role of the Slinger/Signaller. Following successful completion of the course candidates will be able to select the correct lifting accessories, attach them to loads safely and guide the load using the appropriate hand signals.

Successful candidates will be awarded a Red CPCS Trained Operator card endorsed with the category Slinger Signaller All Types – All Duties. (Lifting Operations). Please note the Red CPCS card is only valid for 2 years, within this time you must complete your NVQ level 2 Diploma to convert from Red card to Blue card. The Blue CPCS card is valid for 5 years, please see NVQ section for more information.
Pre course requirement: The Health Safety & Environment test for Operatives must be passed before undertaking the CPCS Technical Test.
This 10 day course is aimed at anyone who is required to operate mobile cranes for lifting operations on construction sites and other allied industries.
Candidates having some previous experience of operating hydraulic lifting equipment would be benefit from this experience for example Tele-handlers, Rough Terrain Forklifts, Lorry Loaders, Mobile Elevated Work Platforms, 360 Excavators etc.) Good hand/eye co-ordination is also required.
Please note that a Group C category licence is required for driving on the open road, however this is not essential for the course.
Anyone wishing to attempt a CPCS Technical Test leading to the award of a CPCS card MUST have evidence that they have undertaken and passed the relevant Health, Safety & Environment Test within the last 2 years of taking the technical test.
This is a 45-minute touch screen multiple choice test consisting of 50 questions. This test can be taken at various Person Vue test centres though out the country, you can arrange your own test and locate your nearest test centre by contacting MGA Training Ltd 0161-707-9865
